Moonshines ( Sunday Brunch ) - Austin, Texas
Mrs. Food and I had the pleasure of joining our good friends the Germans for Sunday brunch at Moonshines, 303 Red River, downtown Austin. Mrs. Food had injured her dainty little foot so I dropped her at the front door and spent 10mins driving around, looking for parking. I finally had to settle for a spot on the side road of I-35. Unless you decide to use the always-friendly valet located in front of Moonshines, be ready to walk. We arrived just after 12 noon, a good size crowd was already waiting for a table ahead or us. So we found a cool, shady spot on the front patio and had a couple Moonshines mimosas…($3.50 part of the brunch special…bloody Mary’s also $3.50)
After a 20 min wait, we were seated on the left patio. I quickly ordered another mimosa and hit the brunch. Now, instead of telling you what I had, I will just list a few of the items available on the brunch …… you won’t be disappointed:
Cinnamon Sticky Buns
Assorted Muffins – Orange Cranberry, banana nut….
Hoss’ Migas – Scrambled w/ tortillas, cheddar, jalapenos
Green Egg Scramble – Basil pesto, cherry tomatoes & Parmesan cheese
Carrot Basil Soup
King Ranch Casserole
Sour dough biscuits and Gravy
Sweet Potato Casserole
The list goes on. Everything Mrs. Food and I try we liked. The fruit was sweet and juicy, the basil pesto Green Egg Scramble was fantastic and the sausage was nice and spicy, it left you hungry for more. I wanted to try everything Moonshines brunch had to offer, but I just couldn’t physically do it. I didn’t even sample the White chocolate bread pudding…. Our total cost for drinks and two Sunday Brunch’s - ($13.95 each) - $52 including tip.
Mr. Food says Two Spoons up for Moonshines Patio Bar & Grill. Besides great food, Moonshines patio areas are just wonderful places to hang out and relax after a busy workweek. Now that the daytime temps in Austin have finally dropped to a humane level, eating outside has become fun again. Check out Moonshines website for more info, complete menu listings and pictures of the restaurant. Limestone walls and flagstone floors make for a cool and casual atmosphere, one I would have to recommend.
